Buzz Aldrin to Speak at Macky Auditorium on Tuesday March 3, 2015

The Distinguished Speakers Board is pleased to announce its second event for the year. Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Lunar Module Pilot and Gemini 12 pilot, will be speaking on Tuesday, March 3, at CU-Boulder’s Macky Auditorium Concert hall. Doors will open at 6:45pm and Aldrin will begin speaking at 7:30.

On July 20, 1969, millions of Americans held their breath and watched with awe and pride as Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong made history as the first two humans to set foot on the moon. Never before had human ingenuity reached such an unprecedented level of achievement. This heroic endeavor was witnessed by the largest worldwide television audience in history. Since retiring from NASA, the Air Force, and his position as Commander of the Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base, Dr. Aldrin has remained at the forefront of efforts to ensure a continued leading role for America in manned space

A living hero, an American patriot, and a space pioneer, Buzz Aldrin is a reminder of the adventurous spirit of our country and stands as one of the bravest explorers of all time. 2008 marked NASA’s 50th Anniversary, while 2014 served as the 45th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing. Upon returning from the moon, Buzz embarked on an international goodwill tour. He was presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor amongst over 50 other distinguished awards and medals from the United States and numerous other countries.

Tickets for the event will be $2 for CU-Boulder Students with a valid Buff OneCard and $15 for community members. Tickets will be available starting February 16th on the first floor of the University Memorial Center (UMC) at the Distinguished Speakers Board Table Monday through Friday, 10:30am to 3:00pm. Community tickets will be available online at starting February 16th. There will be a Q&A portion with the audience following the speech.
